Functional Assessments

At Spectrum Sisters, we understand that autism and ADHD affect each woman and girl differently. A Functional Assessment goes beyond diagnosis to explore how neurodivergence impacts daily life, routines, relationships, and wellbeing, highlighting both challenges and strengths.

This assessment is particularly important for women and girls, who often mask, adapt, or compensate, meaning traditional assessments can miss key aspects of everyday functioning.

Included in Diagnostic Assessments

Unlike most providers, every Autism, ADHD, or Combined Assessment at Spectrum Sisters includes a detailed functional assessment.

This means that when you book a full diagnostic assessment, we will:

  • Explore your daily living skills, independence, and routines

  • Examine social, occupational, and educational functioning

  • Identify your strengths, sensory needs, and coping strategies

  • Provide a detailed, personalised report with practical recommendations

The Functional Assessment is integral to the diagnostic process, ensuring your diagnosis is paired with a clear understanding of real-life impact and support needs.

Standalone Functional Assessment

We also offer Functional Assessments as a standalone service, for individuals who:

  • Already have a diagnosis but want a more detailed, practical, and actionable understanding of their daily functioning

  • Have had a previous assessment that was brief or lacked depth

  • Are social workers, teachers, educators, GP's or other professionals seeking specific functional information to guide support or planning.

  • For use with legal or tribunal purposes- Functional Assessments can support

    • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) applications or appeals.

    • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) assessments

    • Tribunal or court proceedings where evidence of functional impact is required.

    • Other legal or social care proceedings where detailed impartial functional information is needed.

A standalone Functional Assessment includes:

  • A structured, in-depth interview exploring routines, social and occupational functioning, and sensory/emotional needs

  • Identification of strengths, gifts, and talents

  • Practical, personalised recommendations for daily life, education, work, and social environments

  • A comprehensive report suitable for professionals or personal use.

Price (Standalone Functional Assessment): £600–£800

Why Functional Assessments Matter

Functional Assessments provide a holistic, actionable understanding of your life as an autistic woman or girl. They help uncover the real-life impact of:

  • Masking and camouflaging

  • Sensory sensitivities

  • Social and occupational challenges

They give you practical tools and guidance to thrive, and complement diagnostic assessments to ensure your needs are understood and supported.
